Prompt: complete your own iteration of subtraction cutting similar to what was taught by Julian Roberts. (how to) : take 2 different woven fabrics that measure 3.5yds separately and sew them selvedge to selvedge. Place the front and back pattern pieces opposite of each other, shoulder to shoulder and draw a line connecting side seam to side seam. Cut along the traced line and sew the side seams together. cut out a circle with the circumference of the circle matching the waist of the person wearing the garment. flip the circle over in order to complete the draping technique.
Approach: my new-found approach to design and creation is seeing garments in neutral tones. For this dress, I used a grey washed silk and a black washed silk to free cut the way shown by Julian Roberts. Envisioning the wearer is in post apocalyptic desert world, I added a shawl neck collar and added a bag for utility while keeping the same aesthetic while adding a new piece.
